Future models - Mitsubishi - Eclipse - EVEclipse nameplate returns to MitsubishiNissan Leaf-based battery electric Eclipse Sportback is Mitsubishi’s newest entrant15 Jun 2026 By MATT BROGAN MITSUBISHI has introduced its first battery electric vehicle since the kei-segment i-MiEV (sold in Australia from 2010-14).
The Nissan Leaf-based Eclipse Sportback will launch globally in the last quarter of 2026, offering what Mitsubishi Motors says are “cosmetic changes that differentiate the two vehicles and make this model uniquely Mitsubishi”.
While no specifications have been revealed, the North American market Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback features its own front and rear styling treatments – including specific headlights and taillights plus different tailgate and alloy wheel designs, as well as three-diamond badging.
With the Nissan Leaf “on hold” for Australia, there is no confirmation that Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited will offer the Eclipse Sportback locally.
For now, the Japanese brand is keeping plenty of market-specific information under wraps, along with technical details, pricing, and the model’s on-sale date.
By way of reference, the third-generation Nissan Leaf (which shares its CMF-EV platform with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback and some Renault models) offers a 52kWh battery pack, an output of 130kW/345Nm, and a driving range of up to 436km (WLTP).
A higher-grade Extended Range variant offers a larger 75kWh battery pack, 160kW/355Nm motor output, and up to 604km (WLTP) driving range.
Both Leaf variants are front-wheel drive and offer DC fast charging at up to 150kW when connected to a suitable appliance, and both offer vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging. ![]() Read more29th of May 2026 ![]() Mitsubishi to return Pajero nameplateTriton platform to form the basis of new Pajero 4WD, due to be unveiled in Q3All future modelsMotor industry news |
