Future models - MG - U9MG teases pricing of incoming U9 uteThree trim grades of MG U9 set for Australia, pricing expected to begin from $55,0009 Sep 2025 By MATT BROGAN
MG MOTOR Australia has announced further details of its incoming U9 dual-cab utility, confirming the model will comprise three variants – Explore, Explore X, and Explore Pro – with a price range of between $55,000 and $65,000 plus on-road costs.
The pricing places the MG U9 against rivals including the BYD Shark 6 (from $57,900), GWM Cannon Alpha (from $51,990), and twin-under-the-skin LDV Terron 9 (from $53,674).
MG Australia says the U9 is designed with versatility in mind, offering a premium cabin experience with up to 32 storage spaces, advanced technology levels including the latest ADAS driver assistance systems, and a unique pass-through rear load space that extends the tray bed through to the back seat.
The Chinese importer says it has also paid close attention to ensuring the U9 offers a driver-centric cabin, replete with aircraft-inspired gear selector for “futuristic appeal”, intuitive instrumentation, infotainment voice control, and a “thoughtfully designed” centre console.
Though engine power and torque figures have not been announced, the U9 is equipped with the same turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine as the LDV Terron 9 rated at 163kW and 520Nm and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Drive is with a BorgWarner-sourced Super Select four-wheel drive system with electronic locking differentials on both axles.
Constructed on a robust ladder chassis and treated with and advanced anti-corrosion treatment process, MG says the U9 has been benchmarked and purpose-built to endure Australia’s demanding conditions, delivering the strength, capability and versatility expected by ute drivers.
“With the MG U9 range – Explore, Explore X and Explore Pro – we’ve created a vehicle line-up that combines comfort, capability, and innovation in equal measure,” said MG Motor Australia business director Kevin Gannon.
“Each variant has been designed to deliver a versatile driving experience, whether it’s for daily commercial use, family weekends, or tackling adventures off the beaten track.
“From its refined ride comfort and advanced safety features to smart design touches that make life easier, the MG U9 proves that Australians no longer have to choose between practicality and innovation when looking for their next ute.”
While safety credentials have not yet been advised, GoAuto understands the U9 meets the latest EuroNCAP five-star safety standard, ensuring full protection for drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Safety is further enhanced through the use of Bosch ESP 9.3 that integrates vehicle dynamic control, traction control and automatic emergency braking, while the U9’s body features high-strength materials that are “built to withstand challenging conditions both on and off-road”.
The MG U9 is now available to order with further details, including final pricing, warranty and delivery timelines, to be revealed in due course.
